Sorensen Library

Located on the LA County Sorensen Park, this compact but full-featured library serves both park patrons as well as neighboring residents. Its layout, with three voluminous adult and teen spaces, each containing books, seating, and technology stations, create the sense of smaller reading rooms while still allowing for staff supervision and service. The children’s area is separated from these three reading rooms for acoustic and programatic reasons, and its interior finishes also provide it with its own identity.

With generous north-facing glazing, shaded from occasional western glare with projecting vertical fins, framed view windows, and interior skylights, natural daylight is provided throughout the building in a controlled and modulated manner. The large community multipurpose room opens to a paved plaza to the south, connecting the Library to a community center and the rest of the park beyond.
