Norwalk Regional Library

This project, located proximate to the LA County Registrar,LA County Hall of Records, Norwalk City Hall, and the Norwalk Courthouse, is a large regional library, built in the 1960s, serving both the local community and, with its specialty Federal and local reference collections, the County as a whole.
The original project scope included a complete replacement of all interior finishes in the public seating and shelving areas of the Library, ADA restroom upgrades, and the addition of two new Group Study Rooms. However, because of the extremely low number of change orders through the majority of the construction process, the project scope was substantially increased, paid for by the budget surplus. The added scope included both building system performance enhancements, which will save the County tens of thousands of dollars over the next few years, upgrades to some of the more worn staff working spaces, and upgrades to the exterior entrance elements, bringing them into compliance with current standards.

emar Studio worked closely with County Library staff to develop custom millwork, modular furniture, loose furniture, shelving, and signage packages that complement the existing building style and era while updating it with contemporary features and performance.
