East Rancho Dominguez Library

Located near the city of Compton. this building efficiently includes all the standard features of a county library such as a multipurpose community room, separate childrenÕs, adult, and teen areas, a group study room, staff work offices, parking with provisions for low-emitting vehicles, individual computer carrels, self-check machines, etc. Due to its small lot size, the building is necessarily close to a heavily trafficked street. With the windows high on the street-facing wall, the safety and privacy of the library patrons is maintained while allowing generous natural daylighting. As with all our buildings, there was comprehensive community input and review, as well as a thorough integration of the public art with the architectural design.

The facility has a photovoltaic array to generate (on site) much of its electrical needs, significantly lowering its operating costs. This feature is integral to the design, not a roof top afterthought. Similarly, other features (e.g. landscaping, natural light, light sensors / circuits, high performance mechanical system, etc.) contribute to the high overall environmental performance.
